Wiccans experience the divine as imminent, as embodied in the universe, the world in all its aspects, and in humanity, as well as transcendent. Therefore, all life is considered sacred and interconnected.
Wicca is commonly known as witchcraft, but is misunderstood. The name is derived from an old Anglo-Saxon word "wicci", pronounced "witchy". Wicci meant a practitioner of the old religion which reflects the influence of the priestess, seer, or shaman. Wicca can be explained as an old European version of what indigenous people around the world would consider as an earth religion. Living close to the earth and respecting their relationship with nature as sacred.
It is a Wiccan tenet that spiritual insight is achieved through living in harmony with the earth. Wicca is the fastest growing religion in America. Wiccans honor the Goddess by whatever name which may be applied, as well as a divine masculine form.
Wiccans do not work with supernatural power. It is unethical to engage in any form of spiritual work that seeks to control, manipulate, or have power over others.
The word "witch" used to be a term of honor and respect in pre-inquisition time. It meant a wise woman or man, shamanic practitioner/medicine person. It was branded as evil when the people practicing this religion would not conform or convert to the state sanctioned forms of Christianity.
